1985 Ford Sierra 1.6L – just 58,000 miles, driving beautifully and an wonderful file

Welcome to the 80’s, where its all about ‘keep fit’ windows, manual tilt sunroofs, 4-speed gearbox’s, cassette holders & cars that are an absolute pleasure to drive.
The iconic Ford Sierra needs no introduction, launched in 1982 to replace the Cortina its futuristic and aerodynamic styling (nicknamed The Jellymould) was a step too far for many of Fords traditional customers and it was a slow starter; but 10 years and 1.3 million cars later it ended up as Britains 10th most popular car of all time.
From the base level 1.3 to the mighty RS Cosworth’s these have become a truly iconic piece of British motoring history, any journey will turn heads and if you’re stopping for petrol allow an extra 20 minutes ‘chat time’ – everybody of a certain age will want to talk to you.
Finished in Radiant Red with a grey cloth interior it presents superbly all round, no sign of the dreaded rot, the alloys look like new, there are absolutely no speaker shaped holes in the parcel shelf or door cards and it comes with a genuine Ford mat set for front & back.

If it wasn’t rare enough, it’s even got the rarely spotted on board computer!

It appears to be in largely original condition with the exception of a modern Bluetooth stereo and a’double deck’ or ‘bi-plane’ rear spoiler – albeit a genuine Ford one and it’s running the desirable and original Pinto engine mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox with the factory Weber 32/36 progressive twin choke carburettor.

It’s unusual to find a Sierra in this condition but what is equally rare is to find one with this sort of file (please do look at the photos), the 8 former keepers have looked after both the car and the file fastidiously. With records of every MOT going back to day one and a huge collection of service and parts invoices right up to the timing belt being replaced earlier this month.
This pre-facelift car is a rare example having covered just 58,000 miles which we are able to warranty with records in the file. It retains all 16 old style MOT certificates with a further 17 annual MOT’s with electronic records to 2022, the next MOT was carried out in January 2025 with no advisories. The extraordinary file is presented in a wonderful red leatherette binder with a silver plaque slowing the cars make, model and registration.

It’s not often we find a car like this; largely original, warranted low mileage, super condition, an enormous file, mechanically sorted and driving beautifully and a recent & advisory free MOT; plus next month she’ll be 40 years old and can be registered as a historic vehicle, with Tax and MOT exemption.
With prices of ‘fast Fords’ still going through the roof we think these superb practical and useable examples will continue to follow suit – it would serve equally well as an (extremely cool) daily driver or enjoy it at weekends, meets and shows, just remember to leave yourself the extra ‘chat time’ wherever you go.
