1979 Pontiac Trans Am Firebird 10th Anniversary Edition 6.6 V8

The ‘80’s, and pressure for more economical cars, loomed; Pontiac’s last hurrah in ‘79 was the 10th Anniversary Edition Firebird Trans-Am.
The first silver & grey Trans Am also offered a new cast iron turbo wheel design, a new silver interior, red instrument lighting and the special Super Bird on the hood; this would be among the last of the Trans Ams offered with the “T/A 6.6” 400 V8 engine and the first with 4 wheel disc brakes.

Pontiac wanted this to be a truly special car and to make it really stand out they fitted the most luxurious interior ever offered in a Trans Am – even with special ‘soundproofing’ carpets. Other upgrades included mirrored T-Tops, power windows, power door locks, a remote boot opener and the WS6 Special Performance Package, offering upgraded brakes & handling.

Only 5,683 were ever built with the 6.6 Litre Oldsmobile 403 and Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 automatic gearbox making these a rare and desirable example of the legendary Trans Am .

It was a big deal in 1979 and as a collectible car from the ‘70s, the anniversary Trans Am offers rarity, desirability and value, whilst still being a fantastic useable classic car.

This example was restored a few years to an excellent standard, with the aftermarket addition of a modern stereo, and has retained the rare 10th Anniversary Silver Bookpack; original Owners Manual, a warranty book, Maintenance Schedule, and stereo and tyres literature.

We have a copy of the Order & Invoice showing this car was originally sold in New Jersey for $9,478.77, that’s circa $43,200 in todays money.

In excellent order inside & out, it’s been subject to a recent specialist service and runs, drives & stops superbly, easily coping with modern traffic and offers a huge amount of road presence – and a great deal of fantastic V8 noise.
