Description
Only 3,855 Series 1 Elans were ever produced and the more exciting SE Turbos, with 162 bhp & a sub 7 second 0-60 time was developed with GM’s open chequebook behind it – applauded as one of the finest front driving chassis ever built and with the fantastic & reliable Japanese engine fettled by Lotus it was a different proposition to earlier Lotus’s. Critically acclaimed as a very capable drivers car it has consistently received rave reviews from the press and owners alike as one of the best British sports cars ever built.
With so few built, and owners that generally keep hold of them, this is a rare find indeed – with just 1 Lotus enthusiast owner from new (a Club Lotus Member since 1973), it has a wonderful history file including the original bookpack and all handbooks with a full service history including 16 entries in the book covering all of its 99,100 miles (an average of 3,100 miles per year).
The car has been fastidiously looked after and recent works include a cambelt & water pump at circa 97,000 miles and a general service including plugs & leads.
Finished in striking red, it presents in excellent condition with just a few minor age related marks and a very smart interior cabin with no rips, tears or cracks. The engine bay and boot are like new, and the wheels and tyres are in super condition.
The stand out for this car though is the driving experience – the steering is sharp, gearbox and clutch move up and down the gears smoothly and quickly and the brakes pull up straight and smart. The handling is superb and it offers a fantastic immersive drive, we think this must be one of the best sports cars for the money.
